RIDGE TO REEF
"What is Ridge to Reef?
The ‘ridge to reef” concept is a holistic approach that takes into consideration all the environments from the top of a mountain down past the shoreline to the coral reefs fronting the land. It encompasses the multi-dimensional environmental, socio-cultural and economic characteristics of communities existing within a geographically shared area (a watershed).
ARK's Ridge to Reef Programmes has the sole purpose of bringing communities together and facilitating public projects that will help reduce flooding, island erosion and sedimentation in nearshore coastal waters.

Our first Ridge to Reef Project....Josiah's Bay
A watershed is an area of land where all water that falls within it eventually drains off into a shared location. The Josiah’s Bay watershed drains into the second largest wetland pond on Tortola. Any developments within this watershed have potential to destroy this fragile habitat if a development upland of the pond lacks proper drainage to slow and filter rainwater that eventually makes its way to the pond.
ARK and U.S based Watershed Consulting Associates LLC. has partnered with the BVI Humane Society to ensure the new facility has no environmental impact on the nearby Josiah’s Bay wetland. Using a Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) concept, this new approach relies on natural features and controlled distribution of runoff to reduce stormwater volume and the pollutants commonly found in stormwater including pesticides, metals, nutrients, and sediment.
